I ran some Trimbrite Clear Bodyguard for a few feet along each stem. It's normally used on autos to protect quarterpanels and doors from rock chips and general abuse. It's quite thin but seems very tough. A former customer had me put it on parts of his kayak. I figured it couldn't hurt on the stems. One of these days I'd like to try some Keel Eazy. http://www.keeleazy.com/ It's much thicker than the Trimbrite and has had some great reviews.
