: If you're paddling in waves that are shoulder high (2-foot waves)
: or overhead (3-foot waves), then having a deck bag is even more
: disadvantages than keeping it inside the cockpit. It raises the
: center of gravity, gets in the wave of paddling and throws water
: into your face. I've found that the best thing for photography
: is using a Sealline dry bag padded with an old foam sleeping
: pad. You pop the skirt, pull the bag out, get the pic and put it
: back in the skirt. The faster option is use a Pelican case or
: store the camera in a waterproof camera bag.

Dang it, you're right. Wasn't paying attention when I typed, so in the spirit of measure twice, I went and sat down with a yard stick. The worst we'll be paddling in would be 1-2 foot waves. More in the vein of 1 foot, because by that point we're heading for shelter. Much past elbow high waves and it starts to get less than fun for us.

Good point about the center of gravity, but how do you get to the stuff if it's under your skirt?
