No dye will make wood lighter, only darker. Even amber or fruitwood. You're best off using a light-colored wood and dyeing it darker or leaving it alone. Bleaching is kind of messy and if you use the peroxide they use for floors, quite dangerous to anything it touches. I don't like it.
