Not my idea. It's all over the web. Low profile tyres work best. Smaller ones for narrower logs. Also with very small logs one can stack four or five together in the tyre so that they support each other.

The best tyres are tyres from rally cars. They are nice and firm across the tread as well as on the side wall.
