Hi Bill

Tis axe is half no heavier than a standard Lang handled axe. The weight on the side causes it to fall over as it hits the ridge about one inch up the blade. This lever action gives the splitting force.

Even knotty wood works. The lever action pulls the timber right off the knot.

Regarding freezing logs, it never gets that cold here.
