: Matt, I have that problem here in Edmonton, Alberta. Most of the
: powered boats on the river have powerful engines to be able to
: move upstream. The river current is quite strong. In the 11
: years I have paddled the river, only one boat has slowed for me:
: the Fire Department Rescue Boat. All of the others either ignore
: me or seemingly deliberately swerve toward me to create large
: waves. If only I had a rocket launcher for these idiots. I'd
: love to see one of these yohos have their engine cut out...I'd
: paddle right past them and keep going.

Other than kids in seadoos most power boat drivers are considerate, I find, but the only time I have been seriously rocked by a power boat was by a police boat, huge, powerful, flat out (donut sale I suppose) and way too close. No biggy as my canoe handles that sort of thing easly, but if I have been a beginner in a plastic factory boat . . .

Speaking of ramp etiquette, I paddled by a bunch of canoeing school boats and headed for the ramp to get out. Just as I struggled out of my kayak (I am 71, have arthritis and it's not as fast an operation as it used to be) all the school boats descended on the ramp at great speed, apparently having a race. One of them actually dragged his heavy boat over my paddle. One might think a school, of all organisations, might teach better manners.
