: Thanks for the pic, and the inspiration! Feel free to post as many
: pics as you're able, along with any build comments/suggestions
: ;oD.

: I plan on building one over the winter, too... just waiting to move
: into the new house at the end of January (original plan was to
: build in my mom's barn, three hours away; new house sounds
: better). The new house has a full unfinished basement, so kayak
: building shouldn't be a problem.

: I don't know where you're located, either. If you happen to be
: somewhere warm enough to get it into the water before spring,
: I'd love to hear a paddle report, too.

Yeah I'll try to post up some more pictures soon, I already have some tips I think. I'm not a woodworking guy and I've never attempted anything like this before, so while I know there are way more informed people, maybe my total beginner tips will be useful to other beginners. For one thing, get a good rasp, it is awesome for fine shaping of the wood. Also, when cutting the ends of the stringers, I found it was way easier to rasp them than to try to cut them at that crazy angle. I made my gunwhales 1 3/4" and used a saw to cut them and a rasp and file to shape. I think you'll be glad you held out to work on it in your own space, like I'll go out and do a tiny bit on it now and again.

I picked up epoxy last night and got the stern mostly worked out. Next up I need to shape up the bow a little bit more, maybe make some sort of nosepiece or something, not sure and also cut a couple notches in the back cross sections for 2 additional beams and cut the main deckridge piece. Maybe I should setup like a blog or something to document the build. When you do start working on it you'll see it is actually pretty easy, just somewhat tedious in some parts.

Oh yeah, I don't know about you but cutting a 16foot piece of wood perfectly straight without a tablesaw is pretty damn hard. I tried with some cheap test wood and decided to just buy it cut. I paid $20 more for the lumberyard to cut it for me and I assure you that is by far the best tip I would give. I got all perfectly straight cut wood, WAY worth it.
