Thanks for the feedback Bill, much appreciated. We are faced with a relatively small membership but a huge area (I live in the SE corner of the province and it took three days of driving to get to the NW corner of BC ... and required going through a second province and a territory to get there). I'm sure most of us would be friends if we ever got the chance to paddle with one another but that isn't likely. This seems like a way to open communication and it is good to hear about advantages, different solutions and pitfalls of doing something like this.

: Our local club also has a Google email list. Since all the members
: of the list are friends in real life, there really isn't a need
: for a forum. Many clubs are also on Yahoo, also basically free.
