: Have you room to use a router or dremel to cut the slots?

On my last build, I decided to make a jig and use my dremel to cut the slots. I made a jig out of a small piece of 4mm ply with leftover strips forming the sides and the ply making the base. The sides of the jig were laid out so that the base of the dremel could only move back and forth enough to clearance the slot the right dimension. I used a bit the same size as the slot finished width.

Before cutting the slots, I applied two thicknesses of 6oz fiberglass cloth (2" squares) to the inside of the deck where the slots would go just to reinforce the openings a bit (Joe Greenley style). After cutting the slots, I rounded the outside a bit with sandpaper and sealed with epoxy using a small brush.

If you try this method, be careful as the dremel will cut quickly and you really need for the jig not to move..... I've attached a few pics....
