"Building Strip-Planked Boats" is copyright 2009, the newer book. I have both that one and "The Strip Built Sea Kayak". What Nick has done with this Petrel is stripped up the hull, stained and glassed the outside of it, and then added a thin strip of accent wood along the sheer line. The same with the outer stem, accent wood was added after the hull was glassed (pg 261).
