There is a program for the Iphone called Navionics Lakes North that is pretty interesting, but it does not give you instantaneous speed. It gives you your average overall trip speed. The useful thing about it is that it lays your track (a line) and has maps of some pretty obscure rivers and lakes. You can also generate a route and take photos pinned to your location. A really cool thing is that you can download your information into Google Earth and send it to people to share your route. It costs $9.95, but if the features are what you want, it is worth it. Make sure you choose the right area for you. You might want to call the company to ask them before you download possibly the wrong map. They appear to be aiming this more at motor boats.

I would like to have an app that provides instantaneous speed. That would be very useful, so I would like to hear from anyone else.
