Sometimes I wish there were and edit feature here.............

Addendum to my last post: make sure both surfaces are as "machine shop" smooth and accurate as you can manage with your fill coats and sand paper, it will help the weatherstrip do its job all the better. I have learned not to allow the tiniest pits, cracks, dips, bumps, etc., etc. get past me steely gaze where gaskets be destined. Arrr.
