Not likely. Ridgid is made for Home Depot by Emerson, the company that used to make the Craftsman line of power tools for Sears.

Several years ago Sears and Emerson parted, but it seems Sears believed Emerson kept some of the tooling which was used in making these products. As I recall the story, Emerson claimed it was worn out , but (according to Sears) instead of destroying it as they said they did, Emerson stored it and later put it back into production making the same products with a Ridgid nameplate. .

Sears sued Emerson, claiming Emerson was using the tooling which should properly belong to Sears in their production of tools for a Sears competitor. Around 2002 Emerson paid Sears over $10 million to settle.

I did a quick check on google to see if I could pull up the old story and found just enough in a minute to confirm I wasn't dreaming the whole thing. In the process I found an interesting carpentry blog and got sidetracked.

I've used powertools built by Emerson for a long time. They made good products with the Craftsman name on them. I assume the ones they make under the Ridgid label are also of high quality. I doubt Bosch or any other major company would share proprietary designs with them, though.
