I used 1/4" meranti to build the hull in the attached picture. Later I used 1/2" okoume for frames on a Yost boat.

The meranti was purchased in 2 batches due to some poor planning. The 2nd batch was quite a bit stiffer, harder, more splintery than the first bunch. Fortunately the garboards (strakes closest to the keel) were cut from the first batch. I don't know if I could have put that much twist in the stiffer plywood.

The okoume is a lighter weight, more flexible wood. I didn't have to bend it for the frames but I've read that it bends better. For cutting and routing it was more pleasant than the meranti.

If I were to build my Rangeley again, I'd spend the extra for the okoume. The ply is a small fraction of the total project budget. And if I ever do a S&G, it'll be okoume.

The subject of various marine plywoods has been repeatedly discussed in depth on the woodenboat.com forums.
