: That's all very interesting. The independent description from the
: very very reputable supplier says it is a premium matched-grain
: veneer with even color and is strong and high quality. What
: problems could you have once it's encased in glass and
: varnished/painted? It's bs 1088, so it won't have voids and will
: have passed glue tests so it won't delaminate.

This is what I had read, way back when - From the CLC forum . . . John is John Harris, the owner of CLC:

I've had nothing but trouble with the quality of Hydrotek. Just crumbles in your hands sometimes. The good sheets are very good, but you can't tell the difference between the good ones and the bad ones until you cut into it or until you're boat starts delaminating."
-------
I've never heard of this happening from anyone else.

A couple of other points - apparently there is no longer an "official" Lloyds standard BS1088, though, of course, lots of plywood is made to the old standard and still stamped as such. I think the point is that anyone could legally stamp their plywood that way, or call it BS1088, regardless of quality. I could be wrong . . . .

My other point being that marine plywood should not need to be encased in epoxy or fiberglassed to remain viable in a marine environment. That's many pages worth of debate, though, all covered - ad nauseam - elsewhere.
