I knocked out both kid's aleutian paddles out of cheap hemlock 1x3's in about a total of one hour. Half of that time was drawing the lines on the paddle blanks. Between my drawknife, cordless hand planer, and a couple of hand planes, the cutting went very quickly. They'd outgrown their original cedar greenland paddles, and really like the new ones with their new kayaks.
