: Point taken,
: I've never had a cut off go anywhere with this jig, but... small
: cut offs are always a potential risk. (harder woods raise the
: stakes, if a cedar cut-off gets somehow jammed in the blade it
: would just keep getting cut up, something like mahogany might do
: something else.

: Mounting a piece of plexiglas as a shield between the operator and
: the saw blade eliminates any risk. Closer to the blade the
: smaller it would need to be...
: A couple of 1x2's cut on an angle like the right hand hold with
: slots cut would allow 1/8" plex to just slide into place.

: I think I read here 5 years ago a great tip for cutting a lot of
: very small pieces--like those needed to make a feature-strip.
: Dust collector opening close to the blade with a piece of
: hardware screen 1/2" x 1/2" gaps across the opening,
: would suck the pieces away from the blade. A spaghetti strainer
: would work well.

: Of course one jig is just one solution of many. I don't own a band
: saw, but I'm sure the same sort of jig would work. And you could
: more safely freehand cut a scarf on a bandsaw than on a table
: saw.
: I like Kudzu's hold downs, they make the jig able to take a wider
: range of widths, which would come in handy making scarfs for an
: SOF.
: One good feature of both our jigs is that there are easily
: modified. The 1x2s on the tops are easily unscrewed, and won't
: have to be re-cut to change the angle or width.

: Will

I've got one that looks just like yours, don't use it anymore after a couple of very close calls of tails of strips passing very close to my head.

I've got a band saw, just have to make a similiar jig for that one, much safer.
