I think your problem would be there would be no station forms to clamp to. Even using stapleless construction you still need to clamp the strips down. The forms give you something to clamp to. I don't know how you'd do it with an existing hull unless you didn't want the hull any more and were willing to screw clamping blocks to it, which doesn't sound like what you're wanting to do.
