In Response To: Strip: Guillemot Stern Strips (Dave)

Bula Dave,

I built a Guillemot and think you'll find using a few cheater strips easier than trying to torture the strips at the stern. The Guillemot design in particular is often hard to get all the stern strips to lay well against the form.

It's also important that the strips conform to the mold or you won't have the 'pinched keel' that is necessary for good tracking. Cheater strips make it easier to accomplish this.

On my later boats, I used the One Ocean Kayaks stripping method of running strips straight down the keel line to get a good 'pinch'. A little ahead of where you are, but this is the hardest part for many Guillemot builders.

Moce mada,
John (in Ra, Fiji)
