S&G: the boat AS a rudder -- unique idea? crazy idea?

For some time I've been wondering if it would be possible to build a SOF that could be warped at will -- as with pedals -- so the hull would have enough curve to serve as a rudder, or "trim rudder," perhaps. Or, maybe the skin at the stem could be forced outward enough to cause drag/deflection on the side to gain some advantage.

Even if possible, it may not be practical. But, I'd like to know if anyone has thoughts on the matter, or if any work has been done like this in the past.
