I'm getting a second base plate for my saw and drilling it to mount about a two foot long rip fence on the side of the plate. If it doesn't work I'll be out about $16 (plus shipping) and a little time. Then I can try plan B.

I've reviewed Bryan Hansel's page and he did something similar, although, as best I can tell, he just used a standard rip guide for his saw (I may start there). You can Bryan's take on it by searching for circular saw at www.nessmuking.com. He describes it in 'Building a Perfect Kayak, Part Four'.

I expect I'll have some extra sanding and faring) to do, but I think I have access to a planer, and that may help some (or a lot).

: How are you using the circular saw on top to rip strips?

: The advantage of attaching a circular saw under a table is that you can make
: the blade height just over the wood height so it safer. Plus you can rig a
: 2 x 4 fence with a feather board coming down on top of the blade and one
: holding the wood in. So, virtually, you can't touch the blade if you
: wanted to.

: I helped a person rip strips years back with that method and he just drilled
: 4 holes in each corner of the base plate and screwed the saw to an old
: wood table. It works fine, just be sure your attachment of the saw is rock
: solid.
