Personally I prefer a leeboard because it can get more leverage than the skeg, and you can tack much better. The skegs are always there and will slow you down and make tacking difficult. The leeboard is only used on the side needed and only when needed. Another option would be a large daggerboard which would have a similar advantage to the leeboard but could be raised and lowered to tailor to wind speed and direction. When running you would put it all the way up, and when reaching you would drop it down. Just my thoughts.
