I have been planning the same in my first SOF that I am building. Any comments about the difference between canvas/vinyl and the wood for an interior mount? I'm a little concerned because once I skin the boat it will be hard if not impossible to get to the transducer.

: Thru-hull transducers are not entirely necessary. Transom-mount transducers
: work perfectly well if correctly mounted inside a kayak's hull and are
: routinely used by the kayak fishing brigade in their rotomoulded poly
: sit-on-top kayaks. The shallow draft of a kayak doesn't cause any problems
: with accuracy. Fish finders do not return accurate results if you are in a
: couple of feet of water or less, regardless of if you are in a kayak or a
: boat.

: The biggest problem with either style of transducer being fitted inside a
: hull is ensuring no air bubbles, or anything else that'll interfere with
: the signal, are between the transducer & the water. In a plastic
: sit-on-top you often glue the trans to the inside of the hull and you have
: to be careful how you do it & what glue you use.

: In a strip hull I don't know how, if at all, the minute natural voids in the
