I tend to look at it this way:
Good marine ply = $50/sheet, doorskins = $15/sheet, 3 sheets needed for the boats I build. Means about $100 in the difference. I put about 60-80 hours into each boat - less than $2.00 per hour in the materials cost, with the promise of a much longer life using the good stuff. Seems like a deal to me...
