I've used Vaclav's method and it works beautifully.

When taping the deck and hull outer seam, I've also added the following with good results..... After you peel back the masking tape and cut the glass tape edge flush per Vaclav's method, re-mask on the outside edge of the fiberglass tape leaving about 1/4 inch of deck/hull open between the glass tape and the masking tape. Then, put your first fill coat on the glass tape. After the first fill coat has hardened sufficiently not to run, pull up the masking tape. Next, re-mask both sides leaving 1/4 inch on either side of the new fill coat. Apply your next fill coat up to the masking tape and remove the tape after the fill coat hardens sufficiently.

By going through these steps, you've stepped down the fill coats to the finished surface of the hull and deck and now sanding them smooth will be very easy and you'll minimize sanding into the glass tape.
