I, too, used toothpicks when building my second Arctic Tern. My toothpicks were round. They are tapered, and I pushed them in until they were tight. Naturally, the stitch holes are not perfectly round, so the epoxy will fill between the toothpicks and the Okoume, creating a little target effect.
