I notice you didn't say "inexpensive", so I'll throw out this idea that I've never seen built:

take a Tom Yost design (www.yostwerks.com) but don't use plywood and aluminum tubing. Instead, fabricate your own carbon fiber frames, and use carbon fiber tubing (commercial or homebuilt) for the stringers/chines/keel. Skin it using Bill Hamm's Very-Cool-But-Not-Yet-Patented dacron/fiberglass combination for a lightweight boat that should be able to easily take the sea swell abuse you describe. Let us know how much it weighs and how much it cost to build. :-)
