: Hi Brian,

: It looks like there is a couple of variables ($RequireEmail: &
: $RequireProfile:) that the admin can set to force a user to establish a
: user profile that must include a valid email address. The forum software
: will send a random password to that address so access to the forum will
: only occur once that password has been entered.

: This certainly does provide a 'better than nothing' solution to user control
: and will restrict automated spam-bots etc. but all it takes to bypass the
: protection is for a human to retrieve the password & they can spam to
: their heart's content. Forum admin can ban that user but they can simply
: re-join under another name.

: It's certainly worth doing as a first-attempt though.

It doesn't look like there are any humans involved in the spam on this site, just 'bots, so this simple solution should be enough to end the problems we've been seeing. Whadayathink Nick?
