: I know this has hundreds of threads already. I have read many.
: But now I need very specific advice. My kayak building buddy wants to put a
: permanent skeg on his Night Heron. Not with cables to be withdrawn into a
: sleeve. We are looking for advice on size, location, materials, etc.
: It can be fixed to the bottom or at the back. Whatever will work well.
: Much appreciated.

Be careful about going too big with a fixed skeg. It may help a lot in normal or light wind conditions but in heavy unexpected winds, you may find your boat turning downwind and you can't over power the bigger skeg to get it to go where you want it to.
