Skin-on-Frame: frame material options?

Contemplating my first SoF project. In the exploring stage. Pondering whether to pursue a wood stick or aluminum tube frame. Have the tools for either approach. Not really concerned about authenticity (guessing had the Inuits an electric bandsaw at their disposal, they might well have done things a bit differently) or making it a take-a-part boat.

Guess my main concerns are overall weight and structural rigidity/flex of wood vs. aluminum. Wondering what kind of hit it can deflect before it permanently bends and if there are other factors/concerns I should be taking into account. I'd be grateful for any advice to be offered.
