The Yakima (werners) are probably the best and most rugged, also the heaviest and most expensive. There are several plastic foot braces that work well enough and are both lighter and less money, they do break on occasion though.

I tend to just use the Yakima footbraces since it's virtually guarenteed that they'll last the life of the boat.
