: Is it worth whiled cutting your strips a +1/4" and running them through
: a thickness planner on both sides before putting on bead/cove? This would
: give you strips that were all perfectly the same thickness,(which would

HI Paul I use a bench top planer to get my strips to 3/16. I do this because I don't use cove and bead edges. I found that the time it took to cut the bead and then cut the cove was way more than the planer took to get perfect strip thickness. I prefer beveled edges they are much tighter. Sometimes if the cove and bead are not really tight after you sand a small gap can appear. It may take some time to get the beveling down. The last 3 boats Went great beveling at least for me that is. If you try this method the hull and deck will be much lighter. The method I mean is 3/16 by 5/8 beveled edge strips built stapleless. the advantage of the planer is it is easier to match up the edges because the thickness is consistent. I use masking tape bungees and clamps to hold the strips until the glue sets. This is the way I like to build strip boats. Others may prefer other ways to build and that's cool. Try it you may like it.
