: I tried molding hatch lips by weighting the carbon fiber down with sand and
: it didnt mold good at all.I think I wasted alot of carbon and epoxy.I used
: 11 oz carbon fiber,(it used alot of reson). I thought it would look good
: and be strong and light. Are there easy to do instrucions for vacum baging?
: Or should I give up and use fibber glass?

I made my hatch lips using the instructions the instructions from One Ocean Kayaks and they came out really nice. I used 6 layers of 6oz glass cloth over a mixture of epoxy, silica, microbaloons and some graphite for color (made it very black). I placed the goo on first over the sacrificial gasket followed by six layers of wet out 6oz glass. I then covered with plastic and laid on a pile of sand. The glass molded to the shape just fine and the outcome was a great fit.

I suspect the heavy carbon cloth you are using will not mold well around the gasket and goo. It's the goo you see from topside and goo through glass that you see from bottom. I doubt you would be able to make the carbon show very well since there's so much goo in the recipe. And you dont need the extra strenght of the carbon and it's hidden. I would save the carbon for something else and use glass..... Just my thoughts
