There is a very in-depth review of instruction books for kayak building in the most recent issue of The Masik newsletter of Qajaq USA. If you're interested in using the books to build from it can help you pick the one that best suits your building goals.

Personally, I have two favorites. H.C. Petersen's book is by far my favorite, but it does not have any instruction in woodworking and assumes you know the process pretty well already. My next favorite is Mark Starr's. It is by far the clearest and best organized. If I were going to build another qajaq for the first time, I'd wish for these two books. You won't be able to get Petersen at BN, but they may have Starr.
