Nick,
When fiberglassing the hull, do you wrap your initial fiberglass fully around the ends of the kayak? The stem pieces would then be laminated over the fiberglass of the hull, as opposed to being laminated directly to the wood of the hull strips.
This is a current situation for myself also, as I am just finishing stripping my Guillemot, and plan on layers of ash for the stems.
