The aspect of ‘la ligne’ that was of interest to me, was that applying those 3 panels just in the deck of a ww yak, would be a nice halfway point between the dynamically stable ‘facetious’ and the much more dynamically unstable ‘specious’ s&g playak. From much work, balancing these approaches together has emerged the s&g playak ‘spurious’. A triptych of s&g playak panel approaches, a triptych of successive stability approaches.

In this particular rendition of the yak ‘spurious’(6’6”x 26”), you can see that the curvatures necessary to build in wood construction are muted (relative to the other 2 yaks). And as they are muted, if the peaks of the s&g forms used to build upon were softened up with a few swipes of the fairing board or bandsaw, a hybrid deck or even the whole yak could easily be rendered in strip. As the panel seams are marked on each form, they would be of great guidance in making an effective strip pattern or at least organization - especially as a lot of care has been taken in placing each panel or design edge. I would guess that having a spectrum of strip colours – light to dark, where the dark was placed on the ‘seam’ line and then strips of successively lesser value up to the next dark seam line may make an interesting and dynamic effect. (fitting would be required below each dark seam, then strip up to the next one and fit, etc etc.)

Anyway, while this rendition of ‘spurious’ is drawn for my specific dimensions, another more typically shaped rendition is just about there also.
