: I'm going to make a stab at sculpting my own seat out of an NRS minicell
: block to replace my Thermarest pad and hopefully alleviate numbuttosis.
: Questions: 1) My boat, a Pygmy AT17, has a V-shaped hull, but only
: slightly so amidships. Will I want to shape the bottom of the block to fit
: the hull cross-section, or just deform it?
: 2) All accounts I've seen describe gluing the block to the hull--any reason
: not to just fasten it with velcro patches?
: 3) How critical is the precise fore-aft placement of the seat with regard to
: trim and weathercocking?
: Thanks as always.
Bill-This worked great for me-carve the bottom of the seat to fit the hull, affix with velcro. The first couple of tries with various velcro/adhesive combos didn't work out, but I picked up this tip at the Newfound Rendezvous -glue the velcro down with with thickened epoxy, both on the hull and the seat. This has held up great for the last three years. I used the industrial strength velcro. One unexpected benefit-one time I stuck the seat in a little aft of where I normally put it; I noticed a strong change in the way the boat, an Osprey HP, handled- tracked better, less yaw. It's a faster way of changing trim than stopping and repacking.-Greg
