: How did you fasten your soft loop fittings?

I did pretty much exactly what Spidey did on his web page. See:

http://dbeweb.com/kayak/pages/holdowns.html

It also sounds like the exact procedure described by the venerable Mister Hanson in his post as well. That guy has excellent taste, by the way. I'd listen to him. :D

: I
: thought about Kent LeBoutillier's recessed deck
: fittings.(http://www.geocities.com/kentsyaks/deckfit.html)

I thought about them too, and even went so far as to make a few to play with and ponder. But I decided the Joe Greenley approach is far more slick and elegant, with apologies to Kent. It's easier to make up, weighs less, and costs nothing (made from scrap, no $40 router bit required, no jig to make, etc). Those recessed fittings are certainly impressive to look at, that's for sure.

My fittings are currently held in place only by the tension of the shock cord. After varnish, they shall be sealed with RTV silicone, per Spidey, David, et al.

Cheers,
Kurt Maurer
