Soft Loop Fittings - Question?

How did you fasten your soft loop fittings? Screws? Bolts? I'm pondering how to attach deck fittings to the Guillemot I'm building for my wife. I thought about Kent LeBoutillier's recessed deck fittings.(http://www.geocities.com/kentsyaks/deckfit.html)
Does anyone have any advice?
