I read the post about the poor chap that detonated his friends barn. Thank God he didn't seriously hurt himself!
I realize the safety and potential health risks of these heaters and have been around them since I was a kid, so thats no problem. (i have a siphon pump for fueling)
Those aren't my concerns, I am stuck with the epoxy that came with the kit so I need to keep the temp over 60 for a few hours at a time and want to use the kerosene heater without screwing up the epoxy. It sounds like others have done this without problems, so that is what I want to hear!
Once I have a hull and deck and am doing saturation coats and so on, I can tent it and use a space heater for faster cure times. Using a space heater down there right now would be like holding a candle out the window as a headlight.
The basement is "in progress" I am going to build two boats down there before I 'rock' the walls I put up. Still have one wall to comlete, but this weekend I ran out of building materials and paycheck, but I had the kit sitting on the shelf. Figured why not have two things going at once. The previous owners had made some big dis-improvements to the basement, like removing part of the insulation. Its not like it gets cold up here in interior Alaska?
There are two forced air vents from the furnace down there. But we only keep the upstairs at 60-62..... I guess I could try closing the registers upstairs and cranking it up for a few hours. Problem is, the furnace is from the stone age and if any parts go south this winter I am in deep doo doo, I would have to buy an entire new burner, fuel pump, etc... that's why we are trying to take it easy on her.
A woodstove, or even better a Toyostove......one day will live in the basement.
