The sad story------------rsQc+2iWBdh51pImJbgRu2

Yeah, well, so I was glassing the hull in a friend's barn/garage. As it's around 0F out I required a heat source. I actually had 3. I used the friend's salamander (30kBTU - a little one!) to initially heat the room. That took a couple of hours. I then used a kerosene heater to maintain temps. You might think that the room was huge or poorly insulated since it took so long to get it warm initially. Well... You'd be wrong! The room was 20' by 10' or so and really well insulated. It just took a while to get all of the wood up to temp. Anyway, the kero heater, on its lowest setting, kept the space at about 90F (it was 10F or so outside by now). Thinking that the room must be really really well insulated, I brought over a little electric space heater that was to be plugged in to maintain at least 60F over night, since no one wanted the kero heater burning all night. So, anyway, I showed up to put on my first fill coat and the kero heater was out of fuel. I filled it and it exploded in flames. The end.

Things that bug me:
- I did some pretty bad damage to my friend's barn (the structure is still there and still water tight - fire response was rapid - but it is not a keeper).
- kerosene heaters and kerosene cans. Note that the heaters come with a huge drip pan. Golly, why could that be? Hmm. Because they know that they are poorly designed and that you will spill. One reason that you might spill is tied to the complimentary facts that the fill hole for the heater is small and placed very low and standard kersone cans (the red plastic ones) are tall and have very short pour spouts. I actually managed to get the spout in the hole without spilling too much kero. It was on removing it that kero splashed pretty much over the whole heater... Poof! Bummer.
- my 'yak is, uh, toast ;)

So, I've got maybe 4-5 strips left and I could make some cool little thing (who knows what) out of them except that my 'glass and resin just went up in flames...

Other positive notes: my friend's shop was spared (other than some minimal water damage - I hope) and I'd only taken over a small subset of my tools (those absolutely necessary). Hmm. And I suppose that if I make another stripper (ha ha ha, snif!) I'll do a better job on my finger joints... 'Cept I gotta build a barn first...

cheers!
