Well, Vaclav's method puts 6 oz. on the outside with 10 oz. in the football area. The other puts 6 1/2 oz on the outside. I would presume that the 10 oz. bottom would be stronger, in some respects, but the multi-directional cloth also has some extra qualities aboutit. This is out of my realm of qualification and needs to be addressed by those more familiar with the engineering on such things. I know that folks have built both ways and I've heard no complaints about either getting severly damaged. And the 3.25 combo would be lighter in the long run.
