Hi Lee,

A slightly different solution that I used on my Coho, 4 each 10-24 stainless T-nuts from West Marine. Cut four thin plywood discs with a hole saw 2 to 2 1/2" diameter, insert the t-nut in the discs from behind and seal with epoxy. Mount to footbraces and epoxy into the kayak. The O.D. on the threaded portion of the 10-24 t-nut is .230" and will fit into the 1/4" holes in the Keepers. In other words the sheer force is still being applied to a 1/4" diameter.

I picked up Necky footbraces for the King. The adjustment button is 8" closer to the cockpit. Worth checking out if you have a dealer near you.
I have no connection to Necky but I do have a couple of photos in their catalog.

: I bet if there was a #12 it would be sufficient,,the kayaksport ones are
: narrower than 1/4"
