Strip: recess question *Pic*

What is the best way to deal with the raised edge in the back of the coaming recess on a Guillemot. I have thought of a few, which involve using 2 strips, but wondered if I am missing something. I can not figure how a solid piece could fit across with the raised edge. I almost took a "good enough" approach last night. I decided to wait and ask those who have been there.
