I just bought 12 oz nylon (74 inches wide) from Dyson Baidarka, for a cost of $10.16 Canadian per foot (note - not metre), including shipping by regular mail to Ontario, 15% Ontario and federal taxes, and Canada Post handling charge of $5. There was no excise duty. This includes the exchange rate as well. The 8 oz would be cheaper. My experience with other goods from the US is that courier or UPS charges for handling are much higher, although they deliver a bit faster.
FWIW I used the 12 oz nylon on my last boat and it came up beautifully, shrank nicely and took varnish well.
