Chip,
It is a great method for the small projects. The glass seems to stick down easier and you can actually squish and massage it into place, then brush the excess smooth. I would be hesitant to use this method on larger projects, only because of the risk of me screwing up the cloth fibers or something else going seriously wrong. If there were a huge advantage to applying cloth this way, more than likely, we'd all be doing it.

On the Cirrus model hull, using scraps of all shapes/sizes of 4oz glass, after brushing on the first piece, the edges started to fray, so I continued to spread epoxy over the rest of the hull, then layed the glass on. So to answer your question, I've used this wet method on a medium sized (6' hull) project with decent results, without even planning to do it that way.

The thing I'm amazed with is how strong a small glassed project seems, only to become even stronger with the next layer and even more so with more layers of glass. Incredibly tough stuff.

Any weekend project updates Chip? Rudder progress? Pics, more pics. Anything please... just an hour 'til I go home.

: Lately I've been glassing a lot of small items like hatch covers, hatch
: catches, rudder parts... I wet out the item with epoxy and then lay the
: dry fabric on top. The first time I read about this technique, I thought
: it sounded like a nightmare but (for these items) it's a really convenient
: way to control how much epoxy goes down, control floating and bubbles.
: It's nice because the fabric soaks up the exess epoxy and I simply go
: around and hit the dry spots where needed.

: Anyone use this technique on a larger scale - like on an entire hull?
