: Rehd,
: I just glassed the inside tonight. The 1.5 oz stuff is difficult on those
: interior concave areas. I think I used too much epoxy, the glass started
: to float some, especially at the bottom of the turn of the bilge. The
: stuff was great on the outside, but required much more care on the inside.
: It might almost be worth it to wet the hull lightly with epoxy and then
: press the cloth down to it, finish with a warm thin epoxy to eliminate dry
: spots.
: Mihke
Same problems I had, it sounds like. Just couldn't get the stuff to stay in the stems and along the chines inside.
Might be worth a try, but the difficulty here would be getting it to stick where you want it and not, where you don't. When I tried to push it down during the curing process it kept sticking to my gloves and/or the squeegie. Just would NOT stay down on the saturated plywood. I used 3.25oz glass on the outside so I haven't tried it there. I think I'll take the rest of my 1.5oz cloth and just save it for my Box-Hockey Paddles for the kids.
The few wrinkles I got I sanded out and just evened it out with a fill coat of epoxy. It looks O.K. and for this light-weight canoe and the protected water use I think it will be just fine. As I've probably mentioned, the boat was not designed to use glass anyway, just resin and taping the seams.
Glassed, that cradle should see many years of use, and I'm hoping/praying for the best in that reguard.
Thanks for the update.
