Thanks Dave,
you can check some of the constructions pics at http://www.spiralmedia.co.za/Kayak/Kayak.htm

I'm in South Africa and a lot of the wood types most people on this forum use are not available here. The hull is made from "Maranti" while the deck is made from Africa Teak and Ash. The Teak is extremely hard but has a lovely finish when polished.

Do you suggest I use wood filler or epoxy to do the filling of the gaps?
How long does it generally take you to sand a boat before glassing?

Adrian.

: Hi All,

: BTW: I have 2 strip canoes under my belt.
: If this is your first kayak, you must have bought Nick's book ... right? He
: goes into great detail about fairing and sanding. His motto is to plane
: and do minimal sanding ... and only enough sanding to take out the
: scratches. If you have any gaps, they should be filled otherwise you'll
: end up with a void with air between the fiberglass and wood.

: I'm building the Guillemot Expedition (well, I haven't actually started yet).
: I'd love to see any construction pics you have.

: Dave
