That might just work for the sail area he is going to carry, Bill. There are, still, some issues that would need to be sorted to make it a really good rudder for sailing a boat that is, potentially, this heavy and fast when loaded and fully hooked-up.

I'd add a pair of bent, right angle aluminum plates (riveted or lightly bolted/sheet metal screwed) on the underside of the steering yoke that took the side support for the rudder right on down to the waterline.

I'd still replace the blade core with slightly heavier gauge 316 stainless steel and I'd further add the above mentioned wooden side plates to shape the blade to a foil section for better lift and less drag.

The blade profile and chord is OK, but I'd prefer to see the angularity shaped into a smoother set of curves with better tip shape for flow retention.
