I usually recommend 3 times the length of the boat in 60 in wide glass for my boats. This way you can lay it on the bias and cut your own tapes for seams. Depending on the beam, one may be able to get two lenghts from a single width and save even more. I have some info and diagrams on my web site about laying out glass on the "How To" pages.
